Laboratory Coordinator


We are looking for an energetic, self-driven and super organised Laboratory Coordinator to lead our laboratory team in Gisborne on a fixed term basis from November 2026 to May 2027. 

 

This is a varied, hands-on role where no two days are quite the same. You’ll lead our seasonal team, work in the laboratory, collect fruit samples and leaves on orchards and make sure work is completely safely, accurately and on time.

 

What will you be doing?

The role changes as the season progresses, provided a great mix of leadership, orchard work and laboratory work.

 

November – February

  • Leading, coordinating and supporting our Kiwigreen team across the Gisborne region
  • Organising rosters and helping plan the workforce
  • Training new staff and ensure they are confident and competent in their work.

January – May

  • Supporting the Laboratory & Pest Monitoring Manager with the day-to-day running of the Gisborne laboratory.
  • Making sure fruit samples are collected and processed correctly.
  • Checking that measurements and results are accurate.
  • Making sure laboratory equipment is working properly and is checked regularly.
  • Keeping equipment records and calibration records up to date.
  • Helping keep laboratory procedures and records up to date.

About you

  • Experience in a people leadership role
  • High on detail, with attention on process, data quality and accurate record keeping
  • Ability to juggle multiple demands and meet tight turnaround times and/or deadlines; and lead your team accordingly
  • Willing to get in and sit alongside your team to get the job done; ability to give clear communication and instruction
  • You'll role model our core values and actively support health and safety and other business initiatives
  • Flexible with hours and days of work to meet operational requirements.

Experience in horticulture, kiwifruit, laboratory work, quality control or team leadership would be an advantage, but we are happy to consider people from other backgrounds who have the right skills and attitude.
