Production Engineer

The secret to DMS’s success is having passionate growers and a reputation for delivering results that attracts the very best people. Operating two major post-harvest facilities in Te Puke and Te Puna, DMS also manages kiwifruit and avocado orchards on behalf of our growers.

With more than 30 seasons under our belt, we set the standard high, and that’s why more and more growers refuse to settle for anything less than DMS. As our business continues to grow, we’re looking for great people to join our team and help us keep delivering outstanding results.

Our Te Puna team is looking for an energetic, hands-on Production Engineer who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys working alongside production teams to minimise downtime, maximise throughput and improve efficiency.

Your Job

As a Production Engineer, you’ll be part of our engineering and maintenance team, helping ensure site machinery, equipment and projects are completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard of workmanship.

You’ll work with a wide range of equipment, from established mechanical fruit-handling machinery to modern kiwifruit and avocado handling systems. You’ll also have the opportunity to contribute to in-house manufacturing projects and future site developments.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Regularly monitoring, maintaining and repairing site machinery and equipment.
  • Responding promptly to breakdowns to minimise production downtime.
  • Troubleshooting mechanical equipment and identifying practical solutions to keep production running smoothly.
  • Working closely with production operators and the wider team to achieve shared goals.
  • Contributing to in-house manufacturing projects and future developments.
  • Identifying and suggesting opportunities to improve efficiency, equipment performance and reliability.

About you

You're practical, proactvive and enjoy solving problems. You take pride in your work, communicate well with others and understand the importance of keeping production running efficiently.

You’ll bring:
  • A relevant qualification or practical experience in engineering or maintenance.
  • Experience maintaining and troubleshooting mechanical equipment.
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to juggle competing priorities and deadlines.
  • Great communication skills and a positive, team-focused attitude.
  • A strong commitment to quality workmanship and continuous improvement.
Our packhouse operations run 24/7 during peak season (March to June), so flexibility to work outside normal hours and on weekends is required.

What’s in it for you?

At DMS, we believe in recognising the skills, experience and contribution our people bring to the team. You’ll enjoy:

  • Competitive pay, with incentivised rates recognising your industry knowledge and experience.
  • Bonuses and health insurance.
  • Opportunities to develop your skills and grow your career.
  • A varied, hands-on role where you can make a real difference to production performance.
  • The chance to work with a supportive team in a growing, locally owned business.
You’ll be working with the nicest people at DMS! Our strong values guide how we work together, take initiative and achieve great results.

If you’re a hands-on engineer who enjoys a challenge and wants to be part of a great team, we’d love to hear from you.
